James Edwin Gunn (ur. 1923 w Kansas City, Missouri) – pisarz fantastyki naukowej, redaktor antologii, krytyk, wykładowca.

W trakcie drugiej wojny światowej odbył trzyletnią służbę w United States Navy. Po jej zakończeniu studiował na Uniwersytecie w Kansas uzyskując w 1947 roku licencjat w dziedzinie dziennikarstwa tytuł magistra filologii angielskiej. Następnie pracował w tym samym uniwersytecie jako wykładowca teorii literatury specjalizujący się w fantastyce naukowej oraz dyrektor wydziału zajmującego się public relations. W latach 1971-72 pełnił funkcję przewodniczącego Stowarzyszenia Amerykańskich Pisarzy Science Fiction, a w latach 1980-82 stał na czele Science Fiction Research Association. Gunn jest także założycielem i dyrektorem Centrum Badań Fantastyki Naukowej działającego przy Uniwersytecie w Kansas.

Karierę pisarską rozpoczął w 1948 jako wolny pisarz. Jest autorem 26 książek wydanych w kilkunastu krajach i prawie 100 opowiadań opublikowanych w czasopismach i antologiach.

Był gościem honorowym Polconu 1986.
