James Blaylock i Tim Powers jako William Ashbless

James Paul Blaylock (ur. 20 września 1950) amerykański pisarz science fiction i fantasy, najbardziej znany z humorystycznych odmian tej literatury.

Urodził się w Long Beach w Kalifornii, studiował język angielski na Uniwersytecie Stanowym California w Fullerton, otrzymując tytuł magistra w 1974 roku. Obecnie mieszka w Orange, w Kalifornii, nauczając creative writing na Uniwersytecie Chapman. Akcja wielu jego książek rozgrywa się w Kaliforni, posarz woli dodawać do rzeczywistości elementy fantastyki zamiast tworzyć nowe światy od podstaw. Stąd krytyka zalicza jego powieści do nurtu realizmu magicznego.

Blaylock wraz z innymi kalifornijskimi pisarzami, Timem Powersem i K. W. Jeterem byli częstymi gośćmi w domu ich pisarskiego guru - Philipa K. Dicka. Razem z Powersem Blaylock utworzył duet pod nazwą William Ashbless.

Blaylock jest obecnie dyrektorem Konserwatorium Creative Writing w Orange County High School of the Arts.
