Lloyd Biggle, Jr pochodzi ze stanu Iowa w USA, gdzie urodził się w roku 1923. Z wykształcenia muzykolog, otrzymał w tej specjalności doktorat uniwersytetu stanowego Michigan. Z tego zapewne powodu przez wiele jego utworów przewijają się tematy kultury w ogóle, a muzyki w szczególności. Jest autorem luźnego cyklu powieściowego, w którym przedstawiciele Organizacji Badań Kultury rozwiązują wiele problemów występujących na różnych planetach; problemów, z którymi zwykli pracownicy służb informacyjnych nie potrafili sobie poradzić. Do tego cyklu należą m. in. The Still, Small Voice of Trumpets (1968) oraz The World Menders (1971).

Innym cyklem powieściowym autora jest pięcioksiąg, którego bohaterem jest nowojorski detektyw polskiego pochodzenia, Jan Darzek, wplątany w awanturę międzyplanetarną na skalę galaktyczną. Jest to parodia space opery; do tego cyklu należą All the Colours of Darkness (1963), Watchers of the Dark (1966), This Darkening Universe (1975), Silence is Deadly (1977), The Whirligig of Time (1979).

Biggle wydał też zbiory opowiadań, m.in.: The Rule of the Door (1967), The Metallic Muse (1972), A Galaxy of Strangers' (1976), a także kilka innych powieści, spośród których godnymi uwagi wydają się The Angry Espers, jego pierwsza powieść z roku 1961, The Light That Never Was (1972) i przede wszystkim Pomnik(Monument, 1974).
