Miriam Allen deFord (1888-1975) amerykańska pisarka. Jest twórczynią The Overbury Affair i Stone Walls - niemal klasycznych już dziś rozpraw na temat zbrodni i kary, a także autorką jedenastu książek historycznych i biograficznych. Opublikowała nieprawdopodobne ilości przekładów z łaciny, literackich biografii, tekstów krytycznych, artykułów na tematy polityczne i socjologiczne, przez wiele lat pracowała jako dziennikarka w renomowanych pismach, wydała mnóstwo wierszy (między innymi tomik poezji wybranych, Penultimates). Urodzona w Filadelfii, mieszkała i żyła przez większość swego życia tam, gdzie wysłało ją serce, czyli w San Francisco. Wyszła za Maynarda Shipleya, który był (zmarł w roku 1934) sławnym pisarzem i wykładowcą uniwersyteckim.
