Margaret Oliphant (prawdziwe nazwisko Margaret Oliphant Wilson ) (1828-1897) to szkocka przedstawicielka epoki wiktoriańskiej w literaturze.

Choć większość jej dorobku stanowią powieści i studia historyczne, to po latach najwyżej oceniane są - zgodnie przez krytyków i czytelników - jej nowele grozy, objętościowo zwykle dłuższe od tradycyjnych historii o duchach. Dwa uznawane są za wybitne przykłady literatury grozy. Okno biblioteki zyskało status kultowego, trafiając do legendarnego zbioru Opowieści z dreszczykiem. A Otwarte drzwi to zdaniem samego M.R. Jamesa - autora Opowieści starego antykwariusza - jedna z najlepszych nowel w całym gatunku.
