Jack McDevitt właściwie John Charles McDevitt (ur. 1935) amerykański pisarz science fiction. Laureat nagród John Campbell i Nebula.
Ukończył Le Salle Uniwersity, już na studiach pisał opowiadania. Jednak po przeczytaniu Davida Copperfielda stwierdził, że nie jest w stanie osiągnąć takiego poziomu i na blisko 25 lat porzucił pisarstwo. Wrócił do niego pod wpływem żony.
Większość jego powieści rozgrywa się w dwóch cyklach.
